Palace Het Loo

Radio Kootwijk

Radio Kootwijk is a historic building and former transmitter park that symbolizes the communication and technology of the past. The building was established in 1918 as a radiotelegraph station for contact with former colonies such as the Dutch East Indies.

When the Netherlands was occupied by Nazi Germany, the then Princess Juliana fled to Canada with her children. Despite the distance, she wanted to maintain contact with the Dutch people and her government.

Radio Kootwijk served as the primary communication channel between Princess Juliana and the Netherlands during this difficult period. Messages were exchanged via radiotelegraphy between Radio Kootwijk and the Soestdijk estate, where the Dutch government was in exile. In this way, the princess could stay informed about important events and developments in the Netherlands and express her support for the resistance against the occupation.

National Park De Hoge Veluwe

The sheepfold
